Hakkari's Aktutun border military outpost that had been attacked five times previously and four other border outposts will be moved to other locations. General Staff Deputy Chief Gen. Hasan Igsiz briefed the press on the recent PKK attack targeting Aktutun outpost. "Aktutun is in a condemned location. It was decided last fall that the troop center should be moved to a new location 300 meters away. The works will start in the upcoming months and the outpost will be inaugurated next summer," Igsiz said. Igsiz said that Samanli, Yesilova, Umurlu and Alan military border outposts would also be moved.

Delivering a speech at the funeral of a soldier that died in Friday's terrorist attack on Hakkari's Aktutun border military outpost, Premier Erdogan said that the statements by the EU and United States on terrorism did not solve the problem. "We are expecting a positive response for our call to take precautions. The issue does not solely have a security aspect. We will take a step after reviewing all the aspects," Erdogan said.

Hasan Igsiz, deputy chief of Turkish General Staff, said that reconstruction of five critical gendarmerie outposts including the one in which 15 soldiers were killed in the PKK attack last week, was delayed because of financial problems as well as due to the geographical conditions. "Those outposts were built years ago to fight against smuggling. Therefore, they were positioned in passages. They will be reconstructed under the current requirements. Their reconstruction takes time because of both financial means and geographical conditions," he told a news conference.
