ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency

The Culture and Tourism Ministry's “Advertising General Management” started looking for new and different ways to promote Turkey. In recent years, the ministry used the “sea – sand – sun” tourism slogan as well as essential destinations such as Ephesus, Capadocia, Pamukkale and Istanbul for the country's advertising visuals. But this time, they will present Turkey's rich potential in areas such as history, faith, culture and health to target markets.Alongside world-renowned tourism localities, Turkish coffee, ceramics, thermal springs, nature sports and other elements reflecting the Turkish people are included in the tourism advertisements. The ministry decided to organize various advertisements depending on the interests of tourists.

Human Factor in the Advertisements

The ministry changed the former advertisement design that had much criticism before for resembling postcards as there was no human depiction. In recent adverts, figures of “happy humans” who are on holiday in Turkey are being used in advertising visuals. While the visuals of previous years displayed sandy beaches and turquoise blue seas, golf courses and the vitality of Istanbul's nightlife are put on the adverts.A similar advertising strategy is pursued for Russia but also with elements familiar to Turkey being presented, such as rich opportunities for history and nature tourism as well as “Turkish coffee and ceramics.”Advertising visuals for 83 countries this year were revised for better context and design.[H.H] No World Heritage of Turkey on visualsDespite all these varieties, some of the “World Heritage” sites in Turkey are not included in the advertisements, such as the ancient city of Xanthos, famous for its traditional houses; the legendary ancient city, even the subject of Hollywood films, Troy of Homer's Iliad, as well as Hattuşaş and the Divriği Ulu Mosque that represented the Hittite civilization. Only in Russian advertisements is there a picture of the huge horse that was used in the movie “Troy.”
