-- PEOPLE UNFURL FLAG AFTER BLAST

Terrorists exploded a bomb in a car near Buca crossroads in Yaghaneler district of Izmir on Thursday morning when a police service vehicle and a military vehicle were passing by. 18 people, including civilians, police officers and soldiers, were injured in the blast. Residents of Yaghaneler responded to terrorists by unfurling flags from their balconies and windows.

-- ONE SILVER, ONE BRONZE

Azize Tanrikulu of Turkey won silver medal in women's 57 kg in taekwondo in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the People's Republic of China. Servet Tazegul won silver medal in the men's 68 kg in taekwondo. Turkey has won six medals in the 2008 Beijing Games so far.

Turkey has blocked access to video sharing website Youtube, the second most visited website in the world, for 3.5 months. Turkey became one of the countries imposing the toughest ban behind the People's Republic of China, Iran, Armenia, Tunisia, Indonesia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. A number of websites protest the ban on access to Youtube by writing "access to this website was blocked by the moderator" in their home page.

-- BOMB LOADED VEHICLE IN IZMIR THIS TIME

Eighteen people have been injured in the western province of Izmir when a bomb-laden vehicle was detonated with remote control as a police vehicle and a military vehicle were passing. A colonel, three troops and eight police officers were among the injured. Governor Cahit Kirac of Izmir said that plastic explosives were used in the attack.

-- CHEERING NEWS FROM BEIJING

Turkey has won two more medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Azize Tanrikulu competing in women's 57 kg taekwondo won silver medal and Servet Tazegul competing in men's 68 kg taekwondo won bronze medal.

-- NO ESCAPE FROM FATE

Turkish businessmen Mustafa Erdil died in plane crash in Madrid. Erdil had resigned from Petrochemical Holding Co. (PETKIM) in 1985 saying there was high risk of cancer, however he died in the plane crash in Spain.

-- BOMB AMBUSH AGAINST POLICE BUS IN IZMIR

A bomb laden car was detonated through remote control as two vehicles carrying policemen and soldiers were passing by. 18 people, 3 of them soldiers and 8 policemen were injured. A colonel and his guard were reported to be in serious condition. Seven citizens were also injured in the blast.

-- PKK BOMB IN IZMIR: 18 PEOPLE INJURED

A bomb laden car was detonated as a military vehicle and a bus carrying policemen were passing by in Esrefpasa district in Aegean province of Izmir at 7:45 a.m. A colonel was reported to be seriously injured in the blast.

-- DETERMINATION OF AZIZE BRINGS SILVER MEDAL

Azize Tanrikulu of Turkey won silver medal in taekwondo in women's 57 kg in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. 22-year-old Azize underwent a knee surgery one year ago. She recovered 4 months ago although the doctors said the recovery could take more. Unfortunately, she broke her hand and underwent an operation four months ago. She did not give in, worked very hard and won the silver medal.

-- SHE SECRETLY STOPS BY INCIRLIK AND LEAVES FOR IRAQ

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice signed missile defense system in Poland, frustrating Russia. Rice came to Incirlik Air Base on Wednesday evening by her private plane and left for Baghdad after staying for a few hours there. Tight security measures were taken in the southern province of Adana during her stay.

-- TERROR IN IZMIR

Terrorist organization increased its attacks especially in crowded cities and it chose Izmir as a target this time. Plastic explosives in a car in front of a gas station in Yaghaneler region in Konak town of Izmir were detonated with remote control when police and military vehicles were passing by. A total of 16 people were injured in the blast.

-- IZMIR INTERNATIONAL FAIR TO OPEN

The 77th Izmir International Fair will open on Friday. A ceremony will take place at Lozan Square and it will be attended by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal, Industry & Trade Minister Zafer Caglayan, Izmir Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu and Governor Cahit Kirac. This year's honorary guest will be Cuba. A number of Cuban firms operating in health sector will take part in the fair.

-- AL QAEDA-STYLE ATTACK IN IZMIR

An automobile laden with explosives blew up in the western province of Izmir as a minibus carrying police officers and a military vehicle were passing by. Eight police officers, a colonel, two troops and seven passers-by were injured in the attack. Three of the injured are in life-threatening condition. The attack also caused serious damage to nearby buildings. A three-storey building became uninhabitable.

There have been good news from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In taekwondo, Azize Tanrikulu won silver medal in women's 57 kg, and Servet Tazegul competing in men's 68 kg won bronze medal.

Traitors have shown their ugly face in Izmir after a suicide bomber blew himself up in the southern province of Mersin. Terrorists detonated a bomb laden automobile with remote control as a bus carrying police officers and a military vehicle were passing. Eight police officers, three soldiers including a colonel and seven passersby were injured in the attack.

-- TWO NATO VESSELS IN BLACK SEA

Two NATO ships have transited from the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea through Turkish Straits to deliver humanitarian relief supplies to war-torn Georgia. Spanish-flagged Almirante Don Juan Bordon and German-flagged FGS Luebeck passed through the Turkish Straits. Two U.S. navy ships allowed by Turkey under the Montreux Convention will pass through the Straits later today.

Azize Tanrikulu of Turkey has won silver medal in women's 57 kg taekwondo and Servet Tazegul won bronze medal in men's 68 kg taekwondo.

-- ELVAN TO VIE FOR GOLD

Elvan Abeylegesse who won silver medal in women's 10,000 m, will vie for gold medal in women's 5,000 m later today. Meanwhile, Turkish boxer Yakip Kilic will take on his Ukranian opponent in the semi-final. If he can beat his opponent, Kilic will qualify to the final.
